Avitas Harper spied on Helene for the Commandant until he converted over to her side and lied on his reports. He was supposed to inform the Commandant on Helene's progress on tracking Elias and poison her with Nightweed when she got to close; however, he gave the Commandant false reports and told Helene about the plan.

Harper grew up in Jeilum with his mother, Renatia, after his father, Arius, was killed in service. When his mother died when he was ten, he stayed with his paternal grandparents during school leaves. He spent four years training under Blackcliff Commandant Horatio Laurentius, the remainder of his Blackcliff training being carried out by Commandant Keris Veturia. Harper showed great potential as a Yearling but remained average during the tenure of Commandant Keris Veturia. Multiple sources have reported Veturia's interest in Harper from an early age.

Relationships

Elias Veterius: Elias is Harper's half brother from their father, Arius Harper. The two have not come face to face yet though he does believe that Elias has Arius' greater qualities.

Commandant: Harper was of special interest of the Commandant as Arius Harper's son. She later employed him to work as a spy for her but later changed sides.

Helene Aquilla: Harper tortured Helene in Torch and spied on her for the commandant. Towards the end of the book, however, he reveals his loyalties to Helene. In Reaper, almost all of Helen's POV's include Harper and how he is growing in importance to her with his sincerity. He saves her from an assassination attempt and Helene heals him after he is wounded in a battle. After the fall of Antium, Harper saves Helene with Laia and they travel to Delphinium. Harper comes to visit Helene in her chambers after she wakes up and the two share a brief intimate moment, however, before proceeding any further, Helene reminds him of their condition and positions, after which he leaves. Further relationship advancement is expected in Ember 4.
